A Jayne Ann Krentz Classic.
Witt's End is in trouble. The small town of artists is at risk of disappearing from the map if Serenity Makepeace can't expand her small grocery store into a mail order enterprise to sell her neighbors' handcrafted goods. High-priced start-up advisor Caleb Ventress was intrigued by Serenity's impassioned letter. A small town grocer wasn't high profile enough for him, but her request earned her a meeting. And Calebs's attraction to her earned her a few more. But when someone tries to blackmail Serenity, her future, and possibly even her life, is at risk.

Yes, I have read this book several times. It is just as good the fourth time as the first. If you like your books with strong male and female characters, you will like Jayne Krentz. Serenity is not like many female characters I have read, she is gentle but strong, caring and loyal. I love her uniqueness and her 'alternative' lifestyle. Caleb is a man who never really knew if he was loved and does not really believe it exists. The two meet amidst a murder mystery which they try to solve as well as putting their own lives back together. What a great couple. And I loved the secondary characters! I think you will too.Product details

Hidden Talents edition by Jayne Ann Krentz Romance eBooks Reviews
It started off so great, loved the first 3-4 chapters. Then it stalled and the characters went flat. Such an interesting start to become a standard lame romance. I usually enjoy JAK's books, but this one is an early one, and definitely not the well executed story we are used to from her.
My title says it all. This is a disappointing novel by Jayne Ann Krentz. Action is slow and characters very unidimensional. Got tired of the illusions of hippies and misfits that lived in the town. Save your money and buy another better written book by this author.
It's actually a 3,5 stars. I love this author but after more than 30 books from her, it's became a little predictable. But I love her resourceful and smart heroine and the dark, brooding and analytical hero. It's a good story, well developed, involving forgiveness and acceptance and with a little mystery. For those who already knows this author I will say that this is not her best work, like ECLIPSE BAY, AMARYLLIS, PAID COMPANION and The Arcane Series, but worth reading.
It would be impossible to describe the town of Witt's End where the red head Serenity lives. I very much enjoyed the colorful characters who make up the town. The story has mystery, murder, humor, and love so what else does one need for entertainment.
I love the quirky characters in this book. The interaction between the uptight hero, the laid back heroine and her ‘family’ is delightful. As in many of her books, Jayne inserts a small piece of information or action that later becomes significant. Her books have progressed over the years from Alpha male and rescued maidens. Now, more often than not, hero and heroine rescue each other.
I enjoy most of Jane Ann Krenz's books before all the ones with everyone having a psychic talent. A straight forward mystery romance is my favorite type book, and this book is no exception. The H & h are completely different personalities, but they come together to solve a mystery and to explore their feelings for one another. You can feel the interest between the two opposites (the H is the uptight businessman and the h is the "hippy" business woman.) Their love story is more romantic than overtly sexual. The mystery is intriguing without being overly violent (spoiler alert one person is pushed down a flight of stairs) and it keeps you wondering who the guilty person is.
As each of what I think of as JAK's classics get e-published I add them to my kindle and take the opportunity to re-read them. It is like visiting an old friend and finding that I enjoy the comfort of rediscovering how much I love these books.
Hidden Talents is one of my long time favorites and it holds up very well, does not seem dated in anyway. I have always loved JAK's strong even tough males although inside there is a part that longs to be loved, but they are not sure how to get love. When they meet their heroine they reach out and hold on for dear life.
Caleb is one of these marvelous men. He doesn't recognize his wanting Serenity as love as he has not had a lot of experience with love. But, he recognizes that he needs her and wants her in his life. When they meet he begins breaking all of his self set rules that kept him safe in what had become a very dreary although materially successful life. I love him.
Serenity is lots of fun. She is a strong woman raised in an unconventional community and she is now determined to preserve the town where she was raised. She is a bit fey, but also very endearing. I loved her Miss Town and Country catalog wardrobe for wearing in 'the outside world' so she would appear normal. When she receives the gift from Caleb at the end, this scene even on repeat rereading brought tears to my eyes.
This ability to create characters I care about; that make me laugh and tear up and ultimately let me close the book with a satisfied smile on my face is the genius of Jayne Ann Krentz.
